Holy Trinity Church, Old Bewick, Northumberland. The Holy Trinity Church dates from the 12th century. Queen Maud gave the Manor of Bewick to Tynemouth Priory in 1107 in memory of her father. The windows and the Norman Arch of the sanctuary date from that period. In the fourteenth century the church was restored possibly by the husband of the lady whose effigy is in the chancel (1330 - 1350). A bell dated 1483 was found amongst rubble in the vestry suggesting there was a tower or belfry by then. There are several 13th and 14th century tomb slabs inside the church and porch. The church was almost a total ruin by the 18th century and was restored in the 19th century. In late winter the churchyard looks lovely with beds of snowdrops. © Copyright - All photos are subject to copyright and may not be reproduced in any format or displayed on any website without prior written permission.
