Photos of Wooler, Northumberland.Wooler is a small town on the edge of the Cheviot Hills in North Northumberland. It is 17 miles by road from Berwick and 17.5 miles from Alnwick. It is on one of the main roads through Northumberland to Scotland, the A697 and is 14 miles from the Border at Coldstream. Wooler is a popular base for walkers heading for the Cheviot Hills and surrounding area. There are good hotels and guest houses as well as camping and caravan parks. The town centre has good local shops and pubs and is a very pleasant place. There is a bus station with services to Alnwick, Berwick, Morpeth, Newcastle as well as local services. At one time Wooler had it's own railway station on the line from Alnwick to Cornhill but this closed many years ago and the main station building is now a house while the goods station is an antiques business. Next to the old station is the cattle mart which holds regular sales. Nearby is Wooler Common where there are short waymarked walks as well as being a good starting point for longer walks into the Cheviot Hills. Another good starting point is nearby Langleeford in the Harthope Valley.
