Bothal, Near Morpeth, NorthumberlandThe photos on these pages have been taken in all four seasons in and around Bothal, which is situated in the valley of the River Wansbeck between Morpeth and Ashington. Bothal is a tiny village but has a castle and a very old church and is a crossing point of the River Wansbeck with it's stepping stones beside the Castle and road bridge upstream near the old mill. All roads in and out of Bothal are via steep banks and Bothal Bank on the road to Ashington was a regular struggle for the old United Buses that used to run this way, especially on market days at Morpeth when they would be packed to bursting point. Further up the Valley past the road bridge is Bothal Weir which used to serve the old Bothal Mill. The mill stream remains but is just a small trickle of water these days. The pages are set out in seasons - to view any location please click on the links below the photos on this page.
